Updates on what’s new

Here are the latest improvements that I should be submitting this weekend to the App store:

  • Database – expanded the names of the food. Hid many of the duplicates (yes no more pages and pages of baby food listings!), improved keyword search to now only look for items which contain all of the words, provide the option if you want to perform a keyword or phrase based search. Fixed a lot of the calculations, as they were based on the wrong weights. Added grams to non liquid items for the serving size, and for some liquids, added ml to the serving size. For Values Plus, added in the correct cost of alcoholic drinks, and also, made fruits and vegetables cost 0. I may have missed some as I had to do that by hand.
  • Number displays – localized displaying of numbers, so e.g., in the US a user would see 4.5, but in say Germany, a user will see 4,5
  • Added Activity Goal to diet settings so you can set a daily goal for activity
  • Fixed an issue where sometimes, when tracking by time period, entries would shift to the previous day. Thanks to a great user in Austria for helping me track this one down!

For searching, the keyword search is a big improvement. Previously when searching, it would look for items which any of the keywords in the name. Now the item must contain all items.
For example, if you perform a keyword search for ‘Beef Soup’, the item must contain both words, beef and soup to be found instead of beef or soup. For phase based searching, the same item must contain the phrase ‘Beef Soup’ to be found.

For items which are being removed from the database, if you have marked an item as a favorite it will not be removed. Also if you have used an item which is to be removed, it will not be removed, but rather hidden.

The database will shrink from 7900 items to about 3700 items. This should also speed things up as well.

After this release, I will start on all of the great suggestions people have been giving me over the past few weeks.
