Suggestions

Reading the latest reviews in the app store. One user suggested doing away with times and simply giving the option of using breakfast, lunch, sinner, etc. Great suggestion. I could make that optional as labels to the current time. The user also suggested making favorites from the existing list. That already exists. Just ht the ‘star’ icon next to the Food Item’s title.

I hope this user emails me so I can discuss a little bit more. I’m always open to suggestions and improvements.

Version 1.8

Been slightly busy at my day job, but I am testing version 1.8 now and hopefully will submit tomorrow night to the app store for approval.

Included:

  • Finally got the decimal point option working correctly. You can now either use decimals or not (set in general settings)
  • The Summary Screen will let you go backwards or forwards now by day so you can past or future summaries and make entries
  • If you would rather add your exercise boost to your bonus instead of your daily budget you have that option (set in general settings)
  • Changed some of the information on the main screen, to make it more useful.

All of these were user requested, so keep the suggestions coming in!

Next Version

Great review in the app store. I agree with the user that their is no on screen summary, you have to email or print to see a weekly/daily summary. Perhaps a screen option may be useful too.

Also another user asked to have the Summary Screen be able to go backwards and forwards through days.

I did find a minor bug in that when you create a new food item, and put the cost on manually, it doesn’t store it. Only when you have the app calculate it does it work. Annoying.

I have to go through the emails again, because I think there are a few more items folks wanted.

Chicken Skewers with Chopped Cucumber, Arugula, & Olives

From a friend of mine comes this amazing grilling recipe.

Serves 4
These skewers are delicious with grilled bread — drizzle thick slices of crusty bread with olive oil, sprinkle with coarse salt, then grill slices on both sides until lightly browned.

2 lbs. boneless chicken thighs with skin on, cut into 1-inch pieces or chicken breast.
1/2 c. dry white wine2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
1 Tbsp. chopped fresh rosemary
Sea salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Extra-virgin olive oil
1 c. finely chopped peeled and seeded cucumber (from 1 medium)
1/3 c. fine chopped arugula
1/3 c. finely chopped pitted kalamata olives
3/4 tsp. finely chopped fresh thyme leaves
1 garlic clove minced
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes

In a large bowl, combine chicken, wine garlic, and rosemary; stir to combine. Cover and marinate at room temperature for 30 minutes.

Preheat grill to medium-high heat.Thread chicken onto skewers; drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill skewers 4 minutes/side, turning once, until chicken is just cooked through, 8-10 minutes total. Transfer skewers to a large plate. In a small bowl, stir together cucumber, arugula, olives, thyme leaves, garlic and red pepper flakes. Spoon mixture over skewers. Drizzle with more olive oil. Season with salt and pepper

I used skinless thighs and reduced grilling time by 1 minute. I also did not add any extra olive oil at the end, but it still came out amazing!

I only counted the chicken towards my points.

Version 1.7.3

A user from Israel discovered a bug I introduced into the last version by adding the app badging. Normally when a new user runs the app for the first time it is supposed to bring you to the configuration screen to help you set things up. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do that in the current version, so if you are a user with date formatting with anything other than an English speaking country, your start day of the week will be in English which causes the app to crash when you try to use the first three icons on the Summary screen.

The work around is to set your Start Day in settings.

Anther issue this astute user noticed was that I do not take European points into account for the points calculator. The formulas for Europe are different than the US.

So needless to say I will be adding Values Plus UK, Values kCal, and Values kJ as methods to count by for European users. The built in database will also be corrected to add in the correct calculated cost based on the three additional counting methods.

I expect to have the new version submitted over the weekend.
