So you hit your goal weight

First congratulations! Second, what now?

There are two types of dieters, in my opinion. The first type diets to lose weight for an upcoming event, or the beach, or something. The second type, modifies their life to make healthy choices and to be healthier.

The former will more than likely gain all their weight back. The latter, on the other hand, stand a better chance of keeping it off, if they maintain their new healthy lifestyle.

For people in Weight Watchers, your leader will tell you how to adjust your daily budget to stay within plus or minus 2lbs of your goal weight. For others, the trick is to increase your budget to stop losing weight, but not gain any. Try a modest 100 calories at first. I know that doesn’t seem like a lot, but it represents an extra 700 calories a week. Watch your weight, if you go up, drop to an extra 50 a day. If you are working with a doctor, he or she should be able to give lots of information on maintaing what you just worked extremely hard to achieve.

Maintaining your new found weight is not easy, and it is easy to slip into old patterns which caused the weight gain to begin with. Being careful and always writing down what you eat should be a lifetime habit, not just while you’re trying to lose weight.

Version 1.7.2

Someone left a review with a really awesome idea, on the app icon, put a badge showing how much of your budget is left for the day!

Another user requested, I must admit some time ago and I forgot, to track exercise in minutes. So I’ll be adding a preference to allow you to either track exercise in minutes or hours.

The Favorite star is supposed to be dark if an item is not a favorite and highlighted if an item is. On the initial view of an item’s detail screen, I switched the images by mistake.

I also think there are a few places I need to check to make sure decimal points are supported/displayed.

For the points plus values, I think mine for the built in foods differ only because I am using the nutritional information from the USDA to calculate the value. I will re-check though to make sure they are correct.

Caramel Cookies

From Weight Watchers:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar, dark
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda

  1. preheat oven to 400 degrees F
  2. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream butter, sugar, egg and vanilla extract. Add remaining ingredients and beat thoroughly
  3. Scrape dough out of bowl and onto a large piece of plastic wrap. Roll dough into a log, about 2 1/2-inches wide; completely wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate until firm, at least 20 minutes or up to overnight.
  4. Cut dough into 1/8-inch-thick slices and arrange on several large ungreased cookie sheets about 1- to 1 1/2-inches apart. Bake until lightly browned around the edges, about 8 to 10 minutes
  5. Allow cookies to cool on cookie sheet for about 1 minute and then remove to a wire rack to cool completely. Yields 1 cookie per serving.

Each cookie is 1 point plus value, which means it has about 50 calories in it.

Weight Loss Plateaus

Since I’m currently losing and gaining the same 2lbs every week, I’d though I’d research how to break a weight loss plateau.

We all experience it (unless you really lucky), in which we just can’t get go any lower, even though we haven’t reached our goal yet.

So what to do? Well lucky for us there is the internet, chick full of good advice.

Here’s an article on About.com with at least 7 things you can do to break that barrier, or these 5 ways from DietBlog.

The key point I’d like to make is don’t give up, and don’t get frustrated, you will eventually get off the plateau!
